Ski Resorts

Obviously, ski resorts are a thriving business in Lapland, and in Sweden, there are ski resorts operating for a hundred years already! Two of these resorts are strategically adjacent to the famed Sweden Ice Hotel, on the Torne River in the Jukkasjärvi village. Around this hotel, where “sleeping on ice” (rooms at -5°C) is the main draw, a lot of ski vacation packages are centered.

There is Bjorkliden Resort located north of the Abisco National Park bordering Norway. Its location deep into the Arctic Circle enables installation of 23 runs of ski lifts with varying lengths and drops as long as 538 meters. While most ski resorts cram for all sorts of ski and snow adventures to be available, Bjorkliden boasts of offering several non-ski natural attractions. They include a show of the northern lights (Aurora Borealis) and leisurely trails of the alps and small slopes around the resort. The best time to go is from February to May.

The Riksgransen Resort lies in the northernmost part of Sweden, and the entire world, which is one of its distinctions. The 100-year-old ski facility has a 500-room hotel with its own amenities and an adjacent private restaurant. The ambience is very laidback, inspired by breathtaking northern sceneries. The best time to go is from December to June.

Of course, when one talks of Lapland, Santa World is always a must-stop especially for kids. It is a real village in Gesundaberget, Mora, more of a nice snow resort for children. The winter season opens in mid-November where family-friendly itinerary include snow trekking in Santa Park, game fishing, clay pigeon hunting and attending the Midvinterblot (mid-winter) feast and fireworks evening festivals. During summer, the place is also open with a musuem and trips to Santa's House, Santa's Workshop and the Troll House.
