The term Lapland refers to a number of different places, depending on a particular location that it is being referred to. It is a territory in Sweden, a province in Finland, a region inhabited by Sami minority group in Northern Europe, and a small town in Indiana, USA, among other things.
In general, Lapland refers to a cold mountainous region scattered above the Arctic Circle, covering parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway. Hence, there are various places and aboriginal communities in these countries that are named after “Lapland.” Sweden originally owned the Finland Lapland territory but the entire stretch was divided between the two nations in 1809.
Despite the varied references, the snow-loving vacationer only has one thing in mind whenever the word Lapland is mentioned: Ski holiday!
